Thanks User DA1714.
Engine had issues running, moving&cutting all at same time.
Worked for 5 years, then works for a time then it work puttered out like not enough gas. Cleared gas line & it was able to work on & off. Then I could mostly only run the engine with out moving and sometimes I could also move but adding the third thing of cutting put the engine in stress at high Throttle (I also compensated with choke to make it last/work longer) and then it shuts down. Starts right back up and would run and wait then I could run it to the garage
Well after reading this, I see why after taking the carb apart cleaning it, not bad at all, it still did not work. Also clearing the "siphon" gas pump mechanism and putting all together I get the Full throttle mode (governor issue - cheap part) and thanks to DA1714's comment 11//2001 I now understand the problem. So after 5 years (bought 4/28/2007 at Sears for a pretty penny) I have to fork out a couple hundred (based on this comment) to fix a cheap part on my 26 HP tractor, or just rig throttle arm not to go past a X threshold. Briggs please go back to quality parts as I used brag how my push Briggs mower work last longer and out perform other lawn mowers. To pay to get the cheaper parts upgraded to the way things used to be (and last) would be worth the extra $100-155 per engine as these tractors are not cheap.
Rated reliability and value low because of this small issue of cheap part which causes a non usage of the investment,
Recommendation 5 out of 10: Buy with the knowledge that Briggs uses cheap parts where in some cases better parts are needed. Other then that it is a awesome work horse.
Prosoverall great, not quiet but not to bad either, starts easy, battery still original
Conswhy the cheap governor part, slightly noisy
Yes, I recommend this product.

Good engine initially, but after two or three years it has issues.
By DA1714 from Wyoming
I like the engine in my riding mower. However, all at once I lost power and the thing would either go wide open (full throttle) or barely idle.
Had to take it to a small engine shop and learned that this type engine has a history of issues with the governor breaking due to poor materials. While the parts are cheap to buy, the engine has to be pulled and dismantled in order to repair it. The whole issue costs a few hundred dollars and the issue occurrs even though the machine has been well serviced. I would gladly recommend this engine without any reservations if it wasn't for the cheap governor which could easily lead to a blown and completely ruined engine.

engine starts but must be choked to run and then will run for a short time..it has an electrical part on bottom of carb..

if it is bad would it keep it from running ..we have cleaned the carb..changed fuel..
Maybe it is the governor like I think Mine is and like User DA1714 which I found under Briggs and Stratton site under review "Home>Engines>Riding Mower Engines>Professional Series™ (V-Twin)" which is URL "https://www.briggsandstratton.com/engines/riding-mower/detail/?series=Professional+Series%26%238482%3b+(V-Twin)&id=%7b300519DE-5742-4D8C-B6EA-F7208438B398%7d#BVRRWidgetID" (can cut and paste the link within the quotes.
