Have approx. 400 hrs of well serviced use on this engine. At this point had to replace an entire head due to valve guide pushing out and causing push rods to bend (2 sets). Techs at Briggs and Stratton tried to help but who would have thought that the guides pushed out of the head. Thought it was a freak thing but 20 hrs. later the other head did the same thing. Last one of these engines I will buy.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Popping back thru intake

I was cutting up some leaves and low grass when the motor started making a popping noise. I determined that it was coming from the intake. I did a compression check. The left cylinder was 180psi the right was 120psi. I removed the head. The gasket did not appear to have blown. The valves move freely. There is a little carbon build-up. I cannot determine if the valves are seating all the way. I quess I could spray some penetrating oil around them and see if it leaks thru. Any thing else I can do?
Be sure to check the valve adjustment first and while you are there check to make sure the valve guides have not moved outward from their seated position. This happened to me and i went thru 2 sets of push rods before it moved enough for me to see what was happening. I had to replace the entire head and then 20 hours later it did the same thing on the other head.
