I purchased a 2010 Craftsman YT 3000 yard tractor with this engine. Runs excellent as all Briggs & Stratton engines do. However, I think this engine is a bit under powered for the 46" Craftsman mowing deck, as it seems to bog slightly when mowing high grass. This engine would perform better on tractors with 42", or smaller decks. Which is surprising considering that the Craftsman YT 3000 actually only mows at 44", even though it is sold as a "46" inch deck. Also, good luck finding the part number for the replacement oil filter. It isn't listed in any of the manuals, parts grids, or anywhere on the Internet. When I changed the oil for the first time, I had to first remove the filter to get the part number, because the part number was unreadable until the filter was removed. After talking to someone at Tractor Supply, there are only two filters available for these Briggs & Stratton engines, and this one uses 696854.

startup tips

first tractor, any startup tips - oil type, gas type
anything else to know
By saying "start-up tips" are you referring to engine cranking, or just in general first-time owner tips?

If the latter, oil type for most all of these engines is SAE 30. I prefer synthetic blend oil, but have not found this in SAE 30 as of yet. Gas type advice is to run NON-ETHANOL gasoline in this, and all small engine equipment if available. Although these engines are designed to run E10 (10% ethanol fuel), the fuel lines are NOT, and will deteriorate over time if the ethanol-tainted fuel isn't treated with fuel stabilizer.
