I bought the engine from my neighbor in may of 2011. He bought it from sear about 2 years ago. the mower sat for about 2 year after the doc. said you need to stop mowing. The engine has a starter that i never use. I mow grass for my business. I do not prime of choke the engine. I just pull the cord one time and the engine firers. Two months after i bought the push mower i hit a stomp and bent the crankshaft but did not break the flywheel key. the engine was quite easy to tare down and rebuild with a new crankshaft.
ProsQuiet, 1 pull starting

My grandfather owns a Christmas tree farm and he uses the 300 series to cut around the tree. he mows about 8 hours in a day with little gasoline. He is cutting grass about 3-4 feet tall.

At 165 hours on an enegine that was regularly serviced beyond the requirements, the engine let go. For some reason the valve guide moved up out of the head and prevented the exhaust valve from opening. I've got about $200 into it so far plus a considerable amount of my own time and I'll end up with a low hours engine that I no longer trust. I hate buying Japanese but I'll never buy another Briggs. I also have a relatively unused Sears pressure washer with a Briggs that is a bear to get running. I have a Sears edger with a Briggs and I finally figured out a routine that will allow me to get it started but it's nothing like the Briggs instructions. I have an old Tecumseh engine on a generator that still runs great.

brigs engines
Posted September 15, 2012
I have only owned brigs besides two engines i hated those two junked one still have one. i LOVE my brigs but mine are all made before 2000 and all start like they just shut off. I got a 10,12, two 24 those hp like the ones we are talking about. and 8.75 toque 5.5 toque and 6 hp 5.5 hp and a 4.5 hp and two 3.5....Anyone one that knows me can tell you my engines don't get it easy i push them too hard make them spin WAY to fast usually above 5500 RPM's governor at 3600 one all of them and i never had a major engine repair from using them...so i dont know what you do to your engine but stop doing it...oh and that regularly serviced is a joke i never get mine serviced i change my own oil and stuff but other than that they get nothing done to them. my one 3.5 hp was 35 years old when i finely blew the carb. i even started with a drill but it never failed to start and i have used brand new brigs and nothing ever goes wrong with them but the rpm governor doesnt let the engine run very fast all of mine have been around red line before and all that i hated was the noise of a brigs at 7500 rpm"s with a strait pipe. the shop that fixes my mowers not the engines said my engines ar pushed to hard and should have broke the first time i pushed them that hard.... maybe im just lucky and i get all my engines used...

How do I start the engine?

I purchased the Weed eater 190 cc 26 " WE1 this spring. I have operated it about 6 times all summer. This week it will not start. Sounds like gas is not getting to the carb. There is no pump to prime the gasline. But if a tip the lawn mower and set it back down the engine will start for a few moments and then stop.
this sounds like a mower i owned when the carb. broke off the engine. if the tip it up some gas will get to the engine. Check the gas intake or the carb. is fill with trash
