I wondered why during a critical outage I could not rely on this genset to provide my residence with the correct type of power. I measured the output frequency at no load with a Fluke 87 and found it to be 85Hz. That's far above even the cutoff opoint for most reputable manufacrurers that shut the engine at 72-75Hz. And people wonder why their initials are BS....what junk. Not a single device could sync to the output, and now you're stuck dragging a 250lb device to a dealer for repair. Pathetic, what a gimmick of an industry.
This said, it started and ran flawlessly, and voltage was always above 120V regadrless of load. Probably due to the fact that they failed to install idle controls, which spun the engine at ridiculous RPMs, which increased noise, and made the unit useless to anything I plugged into it other than a lightbulb.
ConsNoisy, poor power quality
No, I do not recommend this product.

Xyrium's Questions

Very high frequerncy output from 30470

Hello,

I've owned my 30470 gen for a year now, and I recently had an opportunity to finally use it. However, during that period, several devices could not sync to the output of the gen. SO, I used a Fluke 87 to measure the output frequency, and noticed that it was running at 85Hz, way out of spec for any USA based equipment. However can this be fixed and brought closer to 59-61Hz?

Thanks!

What is the percentage of Voltage regulation on the Elite Series 7000 Watt generator?

Also, What is the percentage of Frequency regulation on the Elite Series 7000 Watt Generator.
There is no voltage or frequency regulation on this gen. Both the engine speed, and thus voltage and frequency decrease as the load increases. Therefore, it's set to run an a overspeed condition with no load. Sensitive devices may not run from a unit like this, or any portable unit until the industry starts making better portable units, instead of just engines strapped to alternators with no other controls.

Do I need a "Line Conditioner".

I just bought a 7000 Watt Elite Series, from my local Sears Hardware Store, and I am wondering if I need a "Line Conditioner" for my electronics.
It won't do anything but possibly clean up the over or undervvoltage, and some minimal EMI/RFI. The real problem will be the output frequency, which varies with load on these. If you have a device that won't start on anything but 60Hz, yuo might have a problem with these gens. You'll probably want to look at the Standby units that maintain a proper 120V and 60Hz regardless of load (or at least they claim such).

can I run electroincs like computers Flat screen TV with out dammage? does it produce a "pure sine wave"?

It will produce a sine wave, not perfect though. The problem is going to be that this is a single speed motor. Therefore, as you load up the gen, the output frequency changes. The unit will probably spin up with no load at a frequency of 80Hz or so, but once you get about 15-18A on it, it will decrease in speed, and get closer to 65Hz or so. This is not a variable speed engine.

Fuel Gauge

On the specifications for the 7000 watt Elite detailed on your site - it indicates that the generator comes with a fuel gauge (while the 8000 watt Elite does not). In reviewing the manual for both - there is no mention of a fuel gauge on either. Which has the correct information?
There is a fuel gauge on the 7kW unit.

The "Elite" series only includes an electric start as a delineation from the bottom of the barrel stuff. There's no regulation, or power quality features installed on them.

Best way to quiet a Generator

Just bought 7K Elite Series and want to know the best way a make it quieter.
Impossible. They are noisier than a team of vacuum cleaners. Get an inverter gen if you want quiet.

The all new 2100 Series™ engines provide easier starting with Magnetron® electric ignition, more durability, and lower emissions. These engines provide the power needed for high-performance mowing. Featuring Maxi-Clean™ air cleaner, and a Super Lo-Tone™ Muffler.

What is the noise level? ..... at what distance?

Do a have table to compare several makes of engines?
I measured 90dB at 20ft, C-weighted. It's much louder than yuor vacuum cleaner.
