My 1980 John Deere mower on my freshly cut lawn.
I was helping my father in law clean out an estate after the owner died last year. We found this John Deere mower in the garage and it was in pretty tough shape. We needed a way to cut the grass on the property so I decided to give it a try. The oil was black, low and in bad shape. I drained it out, filled it with fresh oil we found in the garage and it started on the second pull and ran flawlessly. This unit hadnt seen regular maintenance since 1993 when the old woman's husband died. Since then it was used, abused and neglected.
I was so impressed with how this little 3.5 HP Briggs engine from 1980 ran that I took it home, cleaned it up rebuilt the carb, put in a new spark plug and flushed out the last of the bad oil. Now I use it at home, at my business and at friends homes and it just keeps going. This engine handles thick grass surprisingly well.
So far this year i have logged over 100 hours of use and has not burned a drop of oil and hasn't given me any trouble at all. One pull and off it goes.
Im proud to say this mower now sits in my garage next to my 10HP Generator, 8HP GO Cart, 18HP Go Cart, 8HP Air Compressor, 4HP lawn mower, 8HP Trash Pump, 8HP Chipper and 8HP Snowblower - All of which are powered by Briggs engines.
